Hand-thrown ceramic vase with relief decoration depicting primitive figures in grey and dark blue glaze. A characteristic piece of Swedish studio pottery with an artistic and figurative expression.

Bio:
Joseph Lloyd (1916-1980) was a British-born ceramic artist who settled in Smögen on Sweden’s west coast in 1956.
He produced ceramic vases and sculptural objects, frequently using relief engraving and motifs inspired by the coastal landscape and Nordic minimalism.
Lloyd’s work represents a fusion of British craft tradition and Scandinavian design sensibility.
Today, pieces from his Smögen period are valued among collectors of mid-20th-century Scandinavian ceramics.
