Bio:
Japanese ceramics have a centuries-old tradition in which craftsmanship, an understanding of materials and individual expression play a central role. During the 1980s, Japanese ceramic artists continued to explore traditional techniques, emphasising natural glazes, asymmetrical forms and the distinctive character of clay. Small sake cups, known as guinomi, are often individually crafted and reflect the Japanese aesthetic appreciation of simplicity, variation and artisanal detail.
