Low art glass bowl in hand-blown glass with a broad, rounded rim and a distinctive geometric form. Executed in a deep aubergine tone with a transparent foot. Signed and dated 1961.

Bio:
Kaj Franck (1911–1989) was one of Finland’s most significant designers and a central figure in modern Finnish glass and ceramic design. He became artistic director of the Nuutajärvi glassworks in 1951, and from the mid-1950s glass became his primary material. Franck created both functional objects and experimental art glass, exploring the optical qualities of glass and a wide range of production techniques. His work is distinguished by clear geometric forms, refined use of colour and a consistent exploration of the possibilities of the material.
