Bio:
Raku is a Japanese firing technique dating from the 16th century, originally developed for tea bowls. The pieces are removed red-hot from the kiln and smoked in combustible material, producing crackled glazes and black, smoked areas. In the second half of the 20th century the technique became popular among Scandinavian studio potters, who valued its unpredictable and unique results.
