Royal Copenhagen was founded in Copenhagen in 1775 under the patronage of Queen Dowager Juliane Marie. The Flora Danica service was begun in 1790 and is regarded as one of the porcelain manufactory’s most significant achievements. The service is renowned for its detailed hand-painted botanical motifs, extensive gilding and exceptional craftsmanship. The Juliane Marie mark refers to the manufactory’s historic association with the Queen Dowager and is used on Flora Danica porcelain.
