Elegant female bust in stoneware executed in an Art Deco-inspired style, with stylised hair and a gently inclined head. Finished in crackled glazes in subdued cream, violet and turquoise tones. Produced on Bornholm and marked on the base with the oval M.A.&S. stamp.

Bio:
Michael Andersen (1859–1931) took over a ceramic workshop in Rønne on Bornholm in 1890 and established what became Michael Andersen & Søn, one of Denmark’s most important ceramic producers. He is particularly renowned for his advanced glaze work and figurative ceramics. The workshop’s production is characterised by strong sculptural qualities, balanced proportions and a clear artistic identity that has achieved lasting international recognition.
