Axel Salto for Royal Copenhagen
Bowl, model 20717, mid-20th century.
Low, wide stoneware bowl with a finely ribbed surface in a regular horizontal relief, characteristic of Axel Salto’s geometric-organic approach. The ribbed style is one of Salto’s three characteristic styles. Finished in subdued earthy glazes with nuanced green, brown and golden tones that enhance the texture and give the bowl a rich, tactile presence.
Origin: Denmark.

Axel Salto was one of the most influential Danish ceramic artists of the 20th century and worked closely with Royal Copenhagen. Salto’s ceramics are renowned for their technical excellence, sculptural quality and inspiration drawn from natural forms and growth patterns.
